A former red light district worker who was trafficked into prostitution as a teenager has revealed what life is like for the women in the windows. Angelica, now 22, spoke to the Mail on Sunday about her horrific five-year ordeal, which began with an EasyJet flight to London. The Romanian national was 17 when she was lured there by a man she thought was her boyfriend, who promised her a job as a hair stylist.
But when she arrived her passport was taken away and she was soon sold on to a buyer who forced her behind one of the world famous windows. During her time in the brothels, she was forced into an abortion when she became pregnant and contracted a venereal disease.
They treat me like dirt. One even urinated all over me and laughed while he was doing it. They are always drunk. They hurt me. She often had to sleep inside the brothel in case clients wanted to make an early morning trip into the red light district. Finally, five years after her ordeal began, she found the courage to tell a support agency staff member that she wanted to escape. She then revealed the terrible secrets that she had been hiding for so long to a plain clothes police officer and was taken to a refuge.
Angelica is now back in Romania and is in touch with her family, who were told by her kidnappers that she went into prostitution willingly. Follow Metro.
